Activities In the Tongariro National Park

LKNZ Backpackers is situated on the southern border of the Tongariro National Park. It is the oldest national park in New Zealand, located in the central North Island. It has been acknowledged by UNESCO as one of the 25 mixed cultural and natural World Heritage Sites.

Note: First timers are advised to ask advice before entering the National Park. There are many dangers associated as with any great natural environment, not least of which is the weather. Blizzards and flash floods are two of the more common dangerous events. All travellers in the Tongariro National Park should be well aware of the changeable weather and prepare/dress accordingly.
